Hardcover. Zustand: Neu. Neu Neuware, auf Lager - The second of a multi-volume set takes into account the deficit of experience and knowledge gained from 3D preoperative planning and postoperative control using new radiological protocols in surgical procedures, with corresponding consequences. It contrasts the established standard techniques of orthognathic oral and maxillofacial surgery with alternatives that are based on years of experience and knowledge gained from better radiological analysis. Orthopaedic oral and maxillofacial surgery has experienced a renaissance in recent years, primarily due to three-dimensional radiological imaging. The book has deliberately been structured in such a way that the clinical situation is contrasted with a graphic representation for better understanding, which is intended to point out special situations that can in turn positively influence the surgical planning of the intervention in order to avoid undesirable results in the individual case. The book will have a reduced text part, but witha lot of illustrations, in order to show the surgeon, who works image-oriented, the logic of the surgical procedure in a simple and clear way. The graphic illustrations will illustrate the three-dimensionality of the complex anatomy in the midface region close to the orbits and the skull base. Illustrations must help where radiological images fall short. The structure of the book will nevertheless be classic, as the variations of the established techniques can only be understood on the basis of historical development.A corresponding textbook that combines clinical situations with pre- and postoperative radiological evaluation and graphic explanation does not exist to date. It will appeal to a broad readership of students and professionals working within Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery, and Otorhinolaryngology.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Radiography with neutrons can yield important information not obtainable by more traditional methods. In contrast to X-rays as the major tool of visual non-destructive testing, neutrons can be attenuated by light materials like water, hydrocarbons, boron, penetrate through heavy materials like steel, lead, uranium, distinguish between different isotopes of certain elements, supply high quality radiographs of highly radioactive components. These advantages have led to multiple applications of neutron radiography since 1955, both for non-nuclear and nuclear problems of quality assurance. The required neutron beams originate from radioisotopic sources, accelerator targets, or research reactors. Energy 'tailoring' which strongly influences the interaction with certain materials adds to the versatility of the method. Since about 1970 norms and standards have been introduced and reviewed both in Europe (Birmingham, September 1973) and the United States (Gaithersburg, February 1975). The first world conference on neutron radiography will take place in December 1981, in San Diego, U.S.A. . In Europe the interested laboratories inside the European Community have entered into systematic collaboration through the Neutron Radiography Working Group (NRWGl. since May 1979. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Estimating Device Reliability: Assessment of Credibility is concerned with the plausibility of reliability estimates obtained from statistical models. Statistical predictions are necessary because technology is always pushing into unexplored areas faster than devices can be made long-lived by design. Flawed reliability methodologies can produce disastrous results, an outstanding example of which is the catastrophic failure of the manned space shuttle CHALLENGER in January 1986. This issue is not whether, but which, statistical models should be used. The issue is not making reliability estimates, but is instead their credibility. The credibility questions explored in the context of practical applications include: What does the confidence level associated with the use of statistical model mean Is the numerical result associated with a high confidence level beyond dispute When is it appropriate to use the exponential (constant hazard rate) model Does this model always provide the most conservative reliability estimate Are the results of traditional 'random' failure hazard rate calculations tenable Are there persuasive alternatives What model should be used to describe the useful life of a device when wearout is absent When Weibull and lognormal failure plots containing a large number of failure times appear similar, how should the correct wearout model be selected Is it important to distinguish between a conservative upper bound on a probability of failure and a realistic estimate of the same probability Estimating Device Reliability: Assessment of Credibility is for those who are obliged to make reliability calculations with a paucity of somewhat corrupt data, by using inexact models, and by making physical assumptions which are impractical to verify. Illustrative examples deal with a variety of electronic devices, ICs and lasers.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The third volume of a multi-volume series considers the gain in experience and knowledge in orthognathic surgery through preoperative 3D planning and postoperative control using established and new clinical protocols in orthognathic maxillofacial surgery. Standard techniques in orthognathic oral and maxillofacial surgery are contrasted with alternatives based on years of experience and knowledge. Orthognathic oral and maxillofacial surgery has experienced a renaissance in recent years, mainly due to three-dimensional radiologic imaging, digital planning and computer-aided manufacturing techniques. The book is deliberately structured in such a way that the clinical situation is supplemented with graphic illustrations for better understanding, which are intended to point out special situations that can in turn positively influence the surgical planning of the procedure in order to avoid undesirable results in individual cases. Volume III deals with the bimaxillary approach for the correction of facial deformities. The book will have a reduced text section but with many clinical images to show the logic of the surgical approach in a simple and clear way to the surgeon who is image-oriented. Illustrations must help where radiological images fail. The structure of the book will nevertheless be classic, as the variations of the established techniques can only be understood on the basis of historical development.A corresponding book that combines clinical situations with pre- and postoperative radiologicaland clinicalevaluation and graphic explanation does not exist to date. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book, now in a revised and updated second edition, offers detailed guidance on the diagnosis, surgical planning, and interdisciplinary treatment of craniofacial trauma. The first part of the book addresses epidemiology, anatomy, radiological diagnosis and innovations, fracture classification, fracture mechanisms, and symptoms. The second part then focuses on treatment, explaining operative principles and providing step-by-step descriptions of a variety of hard and soft tissue reconstructive procedures. Here, individual chapters are devoted to neurosurgical management, surgical repair of fractures, methods of dural and skull base treatment, osteosynthesis, intraoperative navigation techniques and systems, reconstruction with bone grafts and alloplastic materials, and complications and late sequelae. The book concludes by discussing surgical strategy in complex craniofacial trauma care and presenting a treatment algorithm that takes into account new developments. CraniofacialTrauma will be an indispensable reference for residents in maxillofacial training and for maxillofacial/neurosurgeons in the specialized field of craniofacial traumatology.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The International Topical Meeting on Irradiation Technology took place two the Neutron and its Applications (Cambridge, weeks after the Conference on th U. K.) marking the 50 anniversary of the discovery of the neutron. The application of neutrons from research reactors for materials testing requires a large variety of irradiation devices (vehicles) and their out-of-pile control and recording equipment. The in-pile sections are sophisticated in design and assem bly, expensive, and consumable. There have been only a few international con ferences on irradiation testing, the last one being limited to fast breeder reactor work (Jackson, Wyoming, September 1973). In 1982, however, two conferences picked up similar topics -the ANS Conference on Fast, Thermal, and Fusion Reactor Experiments (Salt Lake City, Utah, April 1982), -the Grenoble meeting (these proceedings). Overlapping has been avoided by putting the accent of the U.S. conference on fast reactor work, and on thermal reactor experiments at Grenoble. Put to gether, both conferences ligned up more than 130 papers in this very specialised field, demonstrating a high level of technological development as opposed to a decreasing number of large materials testing reactors available. The editors wish to acknowledge the flawless organisation of the meeting by CEN de Grenoble and the personal commitment of CEN staff to its success. Special thanks go to F. Merchie andJ.F. Veyrat of the Service des Piles. P. von der Hardt H. R6ttger XIII P. von der Hardt and H. Rottger (eds.), Irradiation Technology, xiii.
