These include Madeleine Pestiaux from Los Angeles, Amanda Degener from Minneapolis, Robbin Ami Silverberg from Brooklyn, John Stahl from California, Exeter Press and Paper in New York, Claire Lissance in Cambridge Mass, Langdell Paperworks in Vermont, Macgregor & Vinzani in Maine, Magnolia Editions in Oakland and the Women's Studio Workshop in Rosendal. Peter Thomas writes that the vast majority of America's premier papermakers have provided examples of their work and that the first requirement for inclusion was a demonstrated history of excellence. He adds that this "collection of papers represents the current state-of-the-art in this vital and exciting medium. It will serve as a valuable resource for future paper historians, and is offered as an inspiration to the modern printmaker". A Collection of Paper Samples Handmade in the USA was featured by the Guild of Bookworkers as the set book for a national traveling show titled Paper Bound during 1997-98, which is why Laura Wait made this binding.

First edition, number 34 of 50 copies. This charming miniature was written, illustrated, printed, and bound by children under the guidance of the book artists Peter and Donna Thomas. The creation of the volume, in which the authors describe how they made the paper from pampas grass, was documented by the couple for one of their many educational events. From the early 1970s, the Thomases partnered, binding books and teaching audiences how to make paper by hand. In 1976, they founded the Good Book Press, inspired by the private press tradition, and published under this imprint until 1988, when they began to print under their own names. Miniature octavo (75 x 57 mm), pp. 16. Photoengraved line drawings and manuscript facsimiles, all on handmade pampas grass paper. Original green quarter leatherette, spine lettered in gilt, marbled paper boards, light blue endpapers, edges uncut. A fine copy.
