Com o objetivo de refletir sobre as Ciências Policiais e os desafios do trabalho policial, o livro "Ciência, Polícia e Inovação" é resultado do I Fórum Internacional de Ciências Policiais (FICP), cuja primeira edição foi realizada em março de 2024, pela Secretaria de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (SE…CTI-RJ) e organizado cientificamente pelo Instituto Arrecife, sob a curadoria-responsável de Luiz Carlos Ramiro Júnior. O evento propôs "constituir um ambiente destinado à troca de ideias e à projeção de uma nova forma de agir sobre as polícias e a segurança pública no país". Com mais de sessenta palestrantes, "entre policiais, militares, pesquisadores, professores, empresários e agentes públicos", o fórum trouxe a pauta da Ciência Policial para o cerne dos debates. Desde a "formação e treinamento policial, vitimologia policial, protocolos de proteção, investigação, inteligência operacional, crimes locais e transnacionais, soberania brasileira, novas tecnologias, inteligência artificial, evolução dos roubos no Brasil" até as "instituições financeiras, segurança pública, municipalidade, segurança nacional, questão indígena e armamentos", os temas foram organizados no livro com o intuito de que o debate suscitado chegasse ao leitor interessado nas discussões sobre Ciências Policiais e Segurança Pública e que "sentem, como todos, o dilema da desordem, insegurança e impunidade".
