First Edition. xx, 249 pp., frontispiece, 2 appendices, 1 sketch, 7 b/w plates hors text, preface by Sir Walter Gilbey, original green cloth, manuscript slip with author's address in Australia pasted over imprint at foot of title, previous owner's inscription on front fly leaf, some foxing, light damp-staining to upper edges of some leaves, otherwise copy in general good condition. Sir James Penn Boucaut (1831- 1916) was an Australian judge and politician. After serving several times as Prime Minister he retired in an estate at the foot of Mount Barker, where he bred purebred Arabian horses. His health improved with leisure and he lived until passing away at his home in Glenelg on 1 February 1916, aged 84. [ Loder 374]. #9182.

Red cloth lettered in gilt; covers lightly sunned and rubbed; some light tanning internally (heaviest on the half-title page); bottom corner of the last few leaves a little creased; an excellent copy. Sir James Penn Boucaut (1831-1916), besides being an Arab horse breeder, was also a Supreme Court Judge and three-times Premier of South Australia.

The three items are in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. One is slightly creased, and the other two carry minor traces of rust from a paperclip. All three are accompanied by their envelopes, each bearing a circular royal stamp in purple, and a 'LONDON SW1 OFFICIAL PAID' postmark in red. ONE: 28 May 1954. 1p., 12mo. 'I am commanded by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother to thank you for your letter, and for the leaflet announcing a reproduction of the "Album of Redouté". | Her Majesty would not desire to acquire a subscription edition, but would be interested in, I think, the limited edition or the standard edition.' He asks the firm to submit a copy of each, in order to 'readily enable Her Majesty to decide which she would prefer'. TWO: 20 October 1954. 1p., 4to. Regarding the two volumes referred to in the last letter he writes: 'Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother leaves for the United States in a few hours. I have had an opportunity, however, of submitting these to her, and for your private information, Her Majesty is proposing to take both Volumes with her in the expectation that she may find them suitable for presentation to some of her hosts or hostesses during the visit. | I enclose a cheque.' THREE: 21 October 1957. 2pp., 12mo. He asks the firm to send Gronow's memoirs and Searle's 'St Helena' to Clarence House on approval.
