Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book details the background to the Kingitanga and also tells the story of the first king, Potatau Te Wherowhero. It details all the momentous events of Te Wherowhero's life from around 1775 to his death in 1860, including his status as Lord of the Waikato and the famous battles and confl…icts with other tribes, his raising up as the First Maori King, and Mana Motuhake, the Maori Kingship, set apart as the symbol of the spiritual and cultural life of the Maori. Pei Te Hurinui's biography of King Potatau tells this story in a Maori voice employing waiata, poetry and whakapapa as well as prose text in English and English translations so that the book is accessible to both Maori language speakers and those with no knowledge of Maori.

The letter relates several details of the "Puhiwahine" booklet. It "was intended for a Souvenir booklet of the unveiling of Puhiwahine's memorial on her grave, but the printing was delayed until the Te Ao Hou articles were published. In the meantime the unveiling had taken place on the 17th April 1960 at the insistence of Te Keehi (see page 25) who said that if the unveiling was delayed she might not live to see it [. . .]There were some printer's errors and omissions in the "Te Ao Hou" articles which were corrected in the printing of the booklet. The Appendix, inside the back cover, and also the genealogical table, outside the back cover were not published in Te Ao Hou." - from the autograph letter. Puhiwahine (c1816-1906) was "most famous of the women of Ngati Tuwharetoa and Ngati Maniapoto in the nineteenth century was undoubtedly Rihi Puhiwahine Te Rangi-hirawea. She knew many of the notable chiefs and leading women among the tribes of her turbulent times, when tribal wars were fought and Pakeha began settling in their land when 'The patu has opposed / The unsheathed sword, / and the loaded gun.'" - entry on Puhiwahine, Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (accessed on Te Ara website, December 2016).
