The work itself is profusely illustrated with numerous in-text illustrations, as well a numerous plates. In total, across the two volumes, there are 40 plates each engraved by Swan Electric Engraving Co. The set features several plates by the notable artist, A Thornburn. A very popular artist, he was predominantly known for watercolour paintings of wildlife, in particular birds.
