In the original paper covered pictorial boards. With illustrated paste-downs, an illustrated title page and 29 colour plates throughout. Collated complete. The Ameliaranne series was a popular children's book series published between 1920 and 1950. Unlike other children's series, it featured eight different authors but one consistent illustrator, Susan Beatrice Pearse. The series follows a young girl, Ameliaranne Stiggins, as she tackles new and challenging situations. This work was the fifth in the series, and was written by Margaret Gilmour. With the previous owner's gift inscription to the title page, dated 1954. In the original pictorial paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the edges. A few marks to the boards. Spine is faded. Hinges strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Offsetting and spotting to the title page and final page. An uncommon work, with charming illustrations by popular children's book illustrator Susan Beatrice Pearse. She was best known for illustrating this popular series of children's books. The Ameliaranne series comprised of 20 children's books published between 1920 and 1950. There were eight different individual authors to these works, with Pearse being their only illustrator. Typically these tales follow the girl and her challenges with new or difficult situations. Typically she uses her imagination and ingenuity to resolve problems. Chronologically, this work is the fifth of the series, and first written by Margaret Gilmour. In original pictorial boards. Externally, worn to the spine, with much of the backstrip lacking. Bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Backstrip has very little remaining. Patches of light rubbing to boards.
