Andrew Barton Paterson (more commonly known as `Banjo' Paterson) is probably the loudest voice in late 19th century/early 20th century Australian literature, he certainly contributed more to Australian mythos than any other literary figure. This collection has the best of his verse particularly in his observations of rural and outback life. This is a centennial edition; he was born in 1864 and much of his verse is late nineteenth/early twentieth century.

Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. this is an early edition of this book of Australian Verse by Banjo Paterson, this example retaining its pictorial dustjacket featuring Saltbush Bill and Aborigines, the book is 7 inches tall approx. the jacket has some noticeable loss, closed tears with acid free archival mending tape, general darkening, red staining to rear with virtually no show through to the front, books cover has some lightened areas along spine, some fraying to spine ends, internally heavy browning to endpapers, heavy foxing to opening and closing pages, else in acceptable condition.

Trench pocket-size (145 × 120 mm), [iv], 171 pages plus a colour frontispiece, additional colour title leaf and pictorial endpapers (all illustrated by Hal Gye). Tipped in on the half-title is a slip, printed in red, advertising six of these 'Pocket Editions for the Trenches'. Pictorial red cloth over thin boards (very slightly bowed); top edge lightly marked; bottom corner of one leaf creased; binding cracked in the centre of the text block (but the stitching is still very firm); overall, a near-fine copy. The advertising slip states that 'Over 30,000 volumes of these Editions for the Trenches have been sold during the last five months'. Only eight volumes were published in the series; the two not mentioned on the slip are 'The Glugs of Gosh' (1917) and 'Digger Smith' (1918), both by C.J. Dennis.
