Original cloth. Zustand: Sehr gut. 386 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Overall very good and clean. Texts in English, Latin and French. - PREFACE: In this thirteenth volume of lusti Lipsi Epistolae the same editiorial techniques were used as explained in volume I, pp. 10-12. From this volume onwards, however, a brief summary of the content of each letter and commentary upon it will be given in English, so as to promote the text s accessibility for an international readership. The letters of former volumes of the lusti Lipsi Epistolae series have been referenced with the sigla ILE I, ILE II, etc. Letters contained in this thirteenth volume or in volumes that are yet to be published are not preceded by a number of the volume. A concordance with the Inventaire (GVi) and a list of letters published in this volume (nrs 2761-2945) concludes the introduction. - Justus Lipsius (Joest Lips or Joost Lips; 18 October 1547 23 March 1606) was a Flemish Catholic philologist, philosopher, and humanist. Lipsius wrote a series of works designed to revive ancient Stoicism in a form that would be compatible with Christianity. The most famous of these is De Constantia (On Constancy). His form of Stoicism influenced a number of contemporary thinkers, creating the intellectual movement of Neostoicism. He taught at the universities in Jena, Leiden, and Leuven.
