First Draft script for the 1952 film. The script's development history began in the US with Vanguard Films and this draft by Dinelli, and was ultimately produced by Republic Pictures in conjunction with Herbert Wilcox Productions in the UK. Script credit was ultimately given to Pamela Bower. Based on the 1913 novel by E. C. Bentley. A reporter is assigned to cover the case of an international businessman in town who was found dead. He poses as a member of the family to gain access to the businessman's house and information from the lead detective on the case who suspects the death was a suicide. Set in Hampshire, England. Blue titled wrappers, noted as First Draft on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 12, dated May 22, 1947, with credits for novelist E.C. Bentley and screenwriter Mel Dinelli. Distribution page present, with receipt intact. 110 leaves, with last page of text numbered 109. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only.
