Membrane separation processes. 7. Separation and production of bioactive molecules. 8. Affinity chromatography. 9. Nanoscale science and engineering. 10. Biosafety. Bibliography. Index. The bioseparation techniques are increasingly important for biotechnology because separation is often the limiting factor for the success of biological processes. This book describes the basic principles and engineering design of various separation processes including chromatography electrophoresis extraction crystallization and membrane separation. It will stimulate young engineers and scientists who will develop bioseparation engineering further in the 21 century and contribute to the worldwide attention to the global environment. The book brings the latest information in the field of bioseparation of enzymes and proteins. It aims to systematically promote and enforce an essential integration between bioseparation processes and biological/chemical and engineering sciences through a series of case studies focusing on separations and separation processes in the context of industrial practice. 278 pp.

Advances in plant biotechnology. Bibliography. Index. Plant biotechnology covers a vast area of methodologies and technologies ranging from specific tools to improve conventional plant breeding and production to advanced and powerful tools that breaks with existing norms and principles. The potentials and limitations of plant biotechnology in relation to plant breeding and production are therefore a complex area and some preliminary information on long term environmental social economic and even ethical effects has caused serious concern among governments and non governmental stakeholders. This is authentic work on plant biotechnology bring together the principles and practice of contemporary plant biotechnology. It includes the techniques of plant genetic modification applications of plant biotechnology crop improvement in agriculture and a production system for pharmaceutical proteins. It also describes ethics safety issues and legislation within the business of plant biotechnology. It will be an essential reading for students researchers and professionals in plant biotechnology and related sciences. 268 pp.

White Clover is a species of clover native to Europe North Africa and West Asia. It has been widely introduced elsewhere in the world as a pasture crop. It grows in turfgrass crops and landscapes. It is also found in a wide range of different field type environments. It can grow on many different types and pHs of soil but prefers clay. White Clover is relatively shallow rooted with most roots in the top 20 cm of soil although some roots extend to a depth of 1 m or more clones expand through the adventitious rooting of Stolons. The plants extensive root system makes the soil more friable improving tilth and water infiltration. This book elaborately describes the structure and functions of White Clover root systems. It will be highly beneficial to students teachers and researchers of plant science and allied fields. 270 pp.
