Prosafassung einer "Buster Brown"-Geschichte. - Die durch Outcault berühmt gewordene Buster-Brown-Figur reist hier u.a. auch nach Basel, Luzern und Ingelheim. - Der amerik. Comic-Pionier R. F. Outcault (1863-1928) arbeitete seit 1895 für verschiedene amerik. Tageszeitungen. "1897 ging O. dann zum "New York Herald" des Verlegers J. G. Bennett, brachte dort 1901 "Pore Li'l Mose and Buddy Tucker" und im Mai 1902 den Bildstreifen "Buster Brown" heraus. Im Gegensatz zu der frechen sozial-anklägerischen Jungenfigur "Yellow Kid" (die Outcault am 7. 7. 1895 zum ersten Mal auftreten ließ) ist "Buster Brown" der hübsch frisierte und gut gekleidete Lausejunge der wohlhabenden amerikanischen Mittelschicht. Seine Aufgabe ist es, zusammen mit seiner sprechenden Bulldogge Tige seine Leser durch naive Streiche zu unterhalten. Ab 1906 erschien "Buster Brown" im "American Humorist", einer Unterhaltungsbeilage des "New York Journal", zu dem O. zurückgekehrt war. "Buster Brown" wurde im "Herald" in einer veränderten Version weitergeführt und in verschiedenen Fassungen bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg gezeichnet. Ebenfalls 1906 veröffentlichte O. eine Biographie des "Buster" in Prosaform und 1908 bis 1913 sechs weitere Bücher mit dieser Hauptfigur. . "Buster Brown", der Junge im Samtanzug, beeinflußte in Amerika Kindermoden, Spielzeugindustrie, Whisky-, Schuh- und Zigarettenwerbung und seine Werbungsprodukte füllten das "Buster Brown-Museum" in New York" (W. Kempkes in LKJ). - Sehr gutes sauberes Exemplar. Sprache: englisch.

A nice collection of comic histories edited by Outcault in the New York Herald, 1903-1904. - Some imperfections: tear in lower margin title and in 12 other leaves (repaired); the first leaf of the 5th story spotted and wrinkled with more marginal tears and a damaged outter corner. About very good with creasing to the boards, including two tape reinforced rear corners, soling and typical page toning. A wonderful color collection R. F. Outcault's *Buster Brown* Sunday pages that had previously appeared in *The New York Herald*. A nice, bright copy of this rare platinum age comic book often found in tatters.

Unbound. Zustand: Very Good. Printed illustration on nice quality laid paper with watermark. Approximately 9" x 7.25". A little modest age-toning, faint old folds that do not appear substantially on the art, two tiny and barely noticeable tears, very good or better. Illustration by the creator of Buster Brown of a dyspeptic gentleman telling a fish story with predictable exaggeration. From a turn-of-the-century publisher's library, we don't know the source of the image.
