There is a frontispiece, illustrated title-page and decorative borders to each page. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám is the title that Edward FitzGerald gave to his 1859 translation from Persian to English of a selection of quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), known as "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia. This is an attractive edition, illustrated/decorated by the British artist William G. Easton ((1879-1949). The book is bound in yapp style thin limp brown near-suede leather covered boards with gold titling and an ornate darker brown stamped design on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some scuffing to the leather and a little staining on the rear board. The contents are tight and clean with some foxing and damp marking on the first and last few pages, including some faint marks on the title page. There is no inscription.

Stated first edition to the title page and stamped number 427 of a limited edition of 1000 (?) copies, colophon for Fraser & Neave Ltd., Singapore to the last leaf. Issue heavily discussed and commented on by the Rubáiyát collectors, which alternates between ornamentation, symbolism and esotericism due to the oriental and art nouveau character of the illustrations. The second sheet with a monogram 'WGS' William George Stirling. Sheet 29 with hand-blacked over-painting of the symbolic genitals of the female figure.
