A single sheet color print, very good, Oban size 27 x 39.5 cm. strong impression, clean, a very tiny bit of mat margin visible else clean, in the original paper mat, two cinnabar artists seals, original. A very lovely work, with a pastel powder-blue background, it shows four full bloom Morning Glory… flowers: pale blue, pink vermillion, dark blue & pale pink, one more small bud lurks below the green leaves in pink un opened. The artist's sig- nature in both Japanese & Romanized letters at lower right, with his two chops or seals. In the white margin to the right is the publisher's seal in cinnabar. Suitable for dis- play and framing. Ohno [1888-1976].

OHNO Bakufu [1888-1976] signed the printed twice: Japanese & English, with his red Hanko [seal/chop], with the publisher and carver's red cinnabar Hanko [seals] in the margin. . A very lovely Japanese color print of Kyoto bamboo. Most likely phyllostachys bambusoides, commonly found in the bamboo forest areas of Kyoto. . *** FIRST & ONLY AUTHOR'S SIGNED EDITION . This print shows three large bamboo-shoots and four large culms with just a few leaves at just above ground-level. Bamboo shoots were commonly collected in the winter months and used as a food-delicacy. . Long and intense boiling is needed to render them edible. Bakufu was a Kyoto Shin-Hanga woodblock print maker and painter who did poignant and tender subjects during the pre & post-World II era. . *** The subject of bamboo is seldom found in Japanese prints. This superb work shows bamboo at its best and in a delicate combination of colors with superb composition.
