Estos temas adquirieron tanta importancia con el tiempo, que bien podrían ser considerados grandes categorías estratégicas. Estas ideas capitales se convirtieron en un punto de inflexión en…el enfoque del ajedrez como actividad humana. Cuando Grandes Maestros de la época creían que ya no se podía avanzar más, incluso que en un futuro no muy lejano todas las partidas serían tablas, Nimzovich amplió con su obra los horizontes del ajedrez. Enriqueció el juego de forma insospechada en ese momento, hasta el punto de que el conocimiento de estas bases teóricas resultaría indispensable para la comprensión del ajedrez actual. Aarón Nimzovich (Riga, 1886 Copenhague, 1935) nació en un año ajedrecístico por excelencia: cuando Steinitz y Zukertort disputaron el primer campeonato del mundo. Haber nacido en una ciudad y en una cultura amantes del ajedrez no podía ser un simple detalle en la vida de Nimzovich. A los ocho años aprendió de su padre los movimientos básicos del tablero, aunque no se dedicaría al ajedrez profesional hasta 1904. Fundador del Hipermodernismo, escribió además Práctica de mi sistema y The Blockade (El bloqueo). Sus más importantes logros como jugador fueron el Campeonato Panruso de 1914 (empatado con Alekhine), Marienbad 1925 (empatado con Rubinstein), Dresde 1926 (por delante de Alekhine y Rubinstein), Londres 1927 (empatado con Tartakower), Berlín 1928 (por delante de Bogoljubov, Tartakower y Réti), y, sobre todo, Carlsbad 1929, un macrotorneo de veintidós jugadores, en el que superó a Capablanca, Spielmann, Rubinstein, Vidmar y Euwe, entre otros destacados maestros.
