In 2006-2007 bezochten de kunstenaars Nico Dockx en Helena Sidiropoulos in Parijs de architect Yona Friedman en zijn hond Balkis Berger-Dobermann om gedachten uit te wisselen rond een bijzondere ontmoeting die ze hadden beleefd in Bangkok met enkele straathonden tijdens een wandeling op een onafgewerkte spoorlijn tussen de Don Muang luchthaven en het Hua Lamphong treinstation. Op uitnodiging van deze honden en na vele 'barking conversations' te Parijs en Antwerpen met hun vrienden Jean-Baptiste Decavèle en Krist Torfs werd in de herfst van 2012 de constitutie van A Dog Republic neergeschreven. Dit gebeurde onder de vorm van een eerste filmdemonstratie in Ludlow38, een ruimte voor hedendaagse kunst in New York. Kort daarop volgden er verschillende performances in De Vleeshal te Middelburg en de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten te Antwerpen; interventies met het architectuurwerk van Yona Friedman's Iconostase150; en evenementen in galerie Esther Donatz te München en Mu.ZEE te Oostende. Het resultaat. LA BATAILLE DU RAIL (extended Let's talk peace! version) & A Dog Republic demonstratie #4. Voor de recentste demonstratie in de Kinepolis te Oostende wordt er gebruik gemaakt van het bekroonde meesterwerk La bataille du rail uit 1945 van de overleden cineast René Clément (1913-1996). Deze film werd in 1946 bekroond in het Filmfestival van Cannes: de kunstenaars beschouwen deze film als een potentieel inhoudelijk en vormelijk "decor" voor de productie van een nieuwe film. Deze unieke filmavond presenteert de eenmalige filmvertoning van LA BATAILLE DU RAIL (extended Let's talk peace! version) in aanwezigheid van A Dog Republic en curator Phillip Van den Bossche. Monografie over de in 1984 plotsklaps overleden kunstenaar. Heyvaert, werkte met tekeningen, foto?s en mail art, maar is vooral gekend voor zijn werk met gevonden objecten. Hij haalt banale voorwerpen uit het dagelijkse leven uit hun context, brengt ze binnen in de kunst, ontneemt ze hun functie en geeft ze met een minimale ingreep een ongekende kracht en intensiteit.
