Paperback. 4o. Stiff pictorial wrappers. 102pp. Illustrations. Very good. First edition of this last hoorah of the venerable Chicago firm, describing 423 items -- this copy with superb autograph addition: Tipped to inside front wrapper is a Typed Note Signed from Newman, 1p, 7¼" X 10½", Chicago, IL, 13 February 1951. Addressed to Jane Carroll. Very good. On "The Civil War Round Table" letterhead, Newman (1911-98) discusses a graphic used to illustrated Civil War Round Table publications and how best to use it. Boldly signed. (Carroll was assistant to Newman's close friend Carl Haverlin, 1899-1985, radio pioneer and president of Broadcast Music, Inc., a music licensing service, as well as a noted Lincoln and Civil War collector.) The Abraham Lincoln Book Shop began as The House of Books, an existing firm that Newman bought and took over during the Depression; he changed its name and focus a few years later at the suggestion of Carl Sandburg. A useful reference.
