In den WarenkorbThe highly diverse Bivalvia fauna of the Ganga River and adjacent stagnant water bodies at Patna comprises 23 taxa, which are described and figured here. They belong to 7 genera of 6 families. 18 bivalves were found in the river, while 5 species occur only in ponds. 3 species of the river (Scaphula celox, S. deltae, Novaculina gangetica) are marine relicts of the family Arcidae and Solecurtidae. Detailed remarks are given for species identification, for differential characters of the shell and for the special habitats, abundance and biology. The juvenile shell, umbonal folds and sculpture of the most common Amblemidae (Parreysia flavidens, P. corrugata, Radiatula caerulea, R. occata, R. olivaria) is described here for the first time and its taxonomic value is discussed. There is a similar pattern of ribs and folds in numerous Parreysia sp. and Radiatula sp. and this character only helps to distinguish the genera but not the species. "Radiatula" olivaria differs markedly from all other Amblemids in the lack of sculpture. It is a unique pioneer species of disturbed sand and silt habitats with a very short life cycle of approximately less than 15 months. The investigated water bodies in Patna are important habitats for threatened species and the bivalve fauna is representing over 32% of the total number of freshwater taxa known from the Indian subcontinent. 43 pp. incl. 9 pls, 31 figs, br. 4.
