People from various fields in the neurosciences came together in order to discuss the physiological characteris tics of calcium currents in nerve cells and the implications for an improved understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of the central nervous system. The chap ters deal with the physical and pharmacological properties of calcium currents, the role of calcium in neurotransmis sion and secretion, aspects of neuroplasticity, epilepsy, and their behavioral implications. The 60th anniversary of Hans Dieter Lux served as the occasion to gather a substantial number of his colleagues to one of the most fascinating fields in present neuroscience. We felt that this was the appropriate way to honour Hans Dieter Lux for his impor tant contributions to our understanding of the central nerv ous system. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Einige Jahre in einem neurophysiologischen Labor haben in mir den Eindruck hinterlassen, daB viele Biologen und Mediziner bei der Durch fUhrung komplizierter und praziser Messungen eine unnotige Scheu vor dem damit verbundenen elektronischen Aufwand zeigen. Diese Erfahrung hat mich von der Notwendigkeit Uberzeugt, darzulegen, daB solche Mes sungen kein detailliertes Wissen tiber Elektronenrohren und Transisto ren voraussetzen. Allerdings erschopfen sich die meisten Elektronik-LehrbUcher in Ein zelheiten tibe~ Rohren- und Transistorschaltungen und Uberlassen es dem Leser, sich die Prinzipien des MeBvorgangs selbst anzueignen. Die Auf gabe, eine Transistorschaltung zu entwerfen, stellt sich jedoch in der heutigen Laborpraxis nicht mehr, da fertige Verstarker in einer Bau groBe zur VerfUgung stehen, wie sie frUher fUr einzelne Transistoren Ublich war. Daher 5011 hier der Versuch unternommen werden, die Betonung auf den MeBvorgang selbst und auf das Zusammenschalten von Bausteinen und Ge raten zu verlegen. lm ersten Kapitel werden die wichtigsten Grundlagen elektrischer MeB verfahren zusammengestellt. Auch sollen etwas vom Ublichen abweichende Betrachtungsweisen dargestellt werden, die jedoch fUr physiologische Problemstellungen angebracht erscheinen. Der zweite Abschnitt be schreibt den MeBvorgang, namlich das Zusammenschalten von MeBwertauf nehmern oder Elektroden mit Vorverstarkern und daran anknUpfenden Re gistrier- und Darstellungsgeraten. Damit sollte der Leser in die Lage versetzt sein, mit Hilfe von kommerziellen Geraten MeBanordnungen fUr individuelle Problemstellungen aufzubauen. SchlieBlich wird im dritten und vierten Kapitel gezeigt, wie sich un ter Verwendung integrierter Bausteine und einfacher Regeln MeBschal tungen selbst erstellen lassen.
