Munn examines how concise graphic forms used by the Walbiri people of the Northern Territory [now more usually the Warlpiri, sometimes referred to as Yapa] are used to create a potentially unlimited set of totemic designs, each with its own unique meaning. Includes illustrations of illustrations of sand drawings, paper drawings and totemic designs, and their links to wider aspects of Warlbiri society. A landmark study.
