In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. This highly-illustrated guide covers the full experience of special operations training from every possible angle. First-hand expert Mullin dissects the key components of special ops training and the variables which come into play when perfecting technique - from reducing ammo loading times to identifying weaknesses in an enemy's kit. His analysis, infused with personal anecdotes, takes in the full spectrum of military operations, including maritime missions, and the rural vs. urban battlefield. There is also considerable information on non-firearm usage, such as specialised armour and ammunition. Written in Mullin's unique style, the narrative sees legal and political viewpoints meet head-on with personal experience and anecdote. The text is heavily illustrated with nearly two hundred images of weapons and training, and promises to be an enlightening and valuable guide to the evolution of Special Forces throughout the last century, and into this one. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Erstausgabe
59 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. The stock market crash of "Black Monday" in October, 1929 heralded the beginnning of the worst depression in American history. At the same time, the sport of one-handed target shooting was very popular. In January, 1932, amidst the darkest days of depression and general economic decline, the Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Companyu introduced their hand-fitted, premium-grade National Match Government Model pistol. These fine arms were eminently suitable for match shooting, but they carried a sticker price of $40 in the days when a brand-new commercial Government Model retailed for about $22. Not surprisingly, the prewar National Match model was originally produced in small numbers, and was in fact only briefly produced. Surprisingly, the prewar National Match .45 Government model may be rarer, in terms of the numbers produced, than the ultra-rare Colt .44 Walker, of which only 1,000 military and 100 civilian examples were ever made. Nevertheless, no finer semi-automatic handgun than the prewar Colt National Match ever left the factory, and anyone who owns one of these American Beauties holds a national treasure in his hand. Both the Book and the Dust Jacket are in Fine condition, showing only the lightest use. An opportunity to own a wonderful copy of a scarce book at a reasonable price.

Over 356,000 were made, in a total of eleven standard chamberings. Experimental models were also made up in .22 rimfire, .22 Hornet, and .41 Special. In addition to the standard versions of each model, which were available in blue or nickel finish with 4-1/2', 5-1/2' or 7-1/2' barrels (7-1/2' standard on the Target Models), a variety of special-order features were available. These included special finishes (gold and/or silver plating); various grades of factory engraving; and grips of ivory, mother-of-pearl or stag, either plain, checkered, or carved, usually with steer head or eagle motifs. The 165 distinct model/versions depicted include some really rare and interesting New Services, beginning with serial nos. 0 and 1, plus the very first Target Old Model and numerous other factory special orders with custom features, including specially-marked versions as used by the U.S. Border Patrol and various police agencies. In addition to a brief historical introduction and individual chapters on each of the models, including the top-of-the-line Shooting Master and the radically bobbed 'Fitz Specials', plus chapters on Famous Users and Aftermarket Modifications, the author presents expert commentaries and reasoned analyses throughout on the value and usefulness of the New Service in the field and as a personal defense weapon, plus frank critiques and comparisons with contemporary Smith & Wesson products. The Colt New Service is one of today's hottest collectibles, with auction sales consistently realizing the high catalog estimates or better. Here is a well-reasoned, entertaining and profusely-illustrated guide to these popular revolvers - the most complete study of the New Service ever published. 8 1/2 X 11 inches, hardcover with dust jacket with dust jacket, illus, 296 pages.
