She emigrated from Sweden to Hendley in 1909 to marry Herman Hokanson. Hemmets Drottning means "Queen of the Home" in Danish. This work has contributions by over two hundred World's Fair lady managers, wives of governors, and other ladies of position and influence, from around mostly America's Midwest, whose signatures accompany their submitted recipes. This cookbook was published in 1899 by Fort Dearborn, then Svenska, then George F. Cram, and also by P.A.- Lindberg & Co. - all of Chicago. This is the Swedish translation of THE HOME QUEEN World's Fair souvenir cookbook from 1893 by the Cram Company. It has 2000 valuable recipes on cookery and hoiusehold economy, menus, table etiquette, toilette, etc. [ Bitting p. 493 ]. Note: this work has also been attributed to Juliet Corson - erroneously. Corson was the first teacher of cookery and dietetics in America. Indeed, this book is dedicated to her, in conjunction with her recognition by Mrs. Potter Palmer, at the World's Columbian Exposition, of Corson as the first American organizer of cooking schools and diet kitchens, and she was put in charge of New York's exhibit of cooking schools at the World's Fair. Note: the opening sections read like a Seventh-Day Adventist might write: indeed, Edson White was raised as an Adventist. HOWEVER, I still question the attribution to J. E. White, and can find no evidence for Mrs. M. L. Wanless - whoever she was - who is credited only with this book.
