Zustand: Fair. 1878. No Edition Remarks. 399 pages. No dust jacket. Decorative red cloth with gilt lettering. 'Excelsior Edition' stated to spine. Copyright date of 1878 with no later printings or dates mentioned; preface from author mentions this is 'a new edition'. No advertisement pages included. Minor thumb marking, foxing and heavy tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, visibly lighter to pastedowns and free endpapers. Cracking to gutters causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Intense cracking to hinges, exposing netting - boards are very loose. A few dog-eared corners. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild sunning, staining and scuffing overall. Spine has light tanning with soft rubbing and crushing to ends. Gilt slightly dulled and rubbed. Book has a slight forward lean. Pale liquid stain to rear.

Soft cover. Zustand: Fair. 1st Edition. Contains 323 alphabets and monograms; grey pictorial wrappers decorated in red in a pretty sad state, torn with loss, repaired with tape, but now detached. Contents good and with some expeiments in lettering (by one Natalie Todd) on tracing paper done about 1908. A fair copy. One of the Jenny June Series of Manuals.

Published under the Authority of the Council of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs of America. From the introduction (by the Council's president): "The woman's club movement represents a part of the great popular educational movement which is sweeping like a tidal wave over the country, and of which Chautauqua, summer schools, night schools, university extension, etc. are all manifestations."
