Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Original staple-bound wraps illustrated with map 22x28cm. (49)pp, unnumbered. Very good, spotted to the wraps. The American Friends of the Middle East was founded in 1951 by journalist Dorothy Thompson, Kermit Roosevelt, Harry Emerson Fosdick among others, to promote peaceful relations between the… US and Arab countries. For this report, its Executive Vice President Garland Evans Hopkins invited three distinguished editors, a Catholic, a Protestant, and a Jew, to tour Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Turkey, and present their findings to US citizens through their own journals. Their contributions were published during December 1953 to January 1954, John Cogley's in the Commonweal, Harold Fey's in The Christianity Century, and Morris Lazaron's in the Jewish Newsletter. They are reprinted here each with its own cover page featuring the journal's logo, illustrated with drawings, and a full-page photo showing the editors checking their itinerary on a map with Hopkins. The articles deal with the state of the countries they visited, and cross-cutting issues relating to Arab-Israeli relations and the Cold War. The Foreword by William Cline, AFME's Director of PR, includes author biographies. There is also information about AFME itself. Scarce.
