No fue del todo así («jamás» es mucho tiempo), si bien hubo que esperar más de un siglo para que el sello francés Transbordeurs llevara a cabo una reedición de la obra. De modo parecido, nunca hasta la presente edición en Pre-Textos había visto la luz una versión castellana de la misma. Texto de carácter marcadamente humanístico y naturaleza miscelánea, El viaje de Grecia encarna el itinerario sentimental de su autor a la vez que el propio viaje de la nación y el pueblo helenos en la lucha por su independencia. La obra se desarrolla en un contexto de marcada atmósfera prebélica, que tiene como fondo las cruentas luchas contraturcas operadas a finales del siglo XIX. Jean Moréas (1856-1910), pseudónimo de Ioannis Papadiamantópoulos, nació en Atenas el 15 de abril de 1856 y falleció en Saint-Mandé, cerca de París, el 31 de marzo de 1910. Hijo de un jurisconsulto griego, desde muy niño fue educado en la cultura y la lengua francesas gracias a su institutriz, quien le inculcó su pasión por la poesía. Pronto llegó a ser una figura familiar en los círculos literarios de la época. Ejerció una influencia decisiva en la formación de la corriente simbolista francesa y en su transformación en auténtica «escuela». Redactó dos manifiestos que contribuyeron de manera notable a establecer el simbolismo como movimiento. Más tarde, sin embargo, convencido de que el simbolismo no habría de durar como corriente literaria, Moréas reciclará sus presupuestos artísticos y, junto a Charles Maurras, instituirá la denominada Escuela Románica, de marcada inspiración neoclásica. De entre el conjunto de su obra, que además de varias colecciones de poemas incluye dos novelas en colaboración con Paul Adam, varios volúmenes de ensayos y numerosos artículos de crítica literaria, cabe destacar el drama clásico en verso Iphigénie à Aulide (1903) y, sobre todo, sus célebres Stances , publicadas entre 1899 y 1920, que llegarían a convertirse con el tiempo en una de las piezas capitales de la poesía moderna.
