The first editions of these three issues in the publisher's original paper wraps with yapped edges. The March 1927 issue (No.3) is illustrated with seven black-and-white plates and a colour tipped-in frontispiece of 'Still-life with a Statue' by Henri Matisse. The May 1927 issue (No.5) is illustrated with seven black-and-white plates and a colour tipped-in frontispiece of 'The Bathers' by Paul Cezanne. The June 1927 issue (No.6) is illustrated with seven black-and-white plates and a colour tipped-in frontispiece of 'The Window' by Carl Hofer. Collated, complete.The Dial was an American magazine published intermittently from 1840 to 1929. From 1920 to 1929, it published issues which were of great influence and provided an outlet for for modernist literature. These issues offer book reviews, essays, poems and short stories by notable writers such as T. S. Eliot, George Saintsbury, Havelock Ellis, and William Carlos Williams; as well as reproductions of art pieces by Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse, and Paul Cezanne. With eight pages of advertisements to each issue. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally bright. Small loss to the backstrip of the paper wraps to March 1927, with small closed tear to the head of the front joint. Paper wraps to May 1927 (No.5) are detached from the textblock and are in two pieces; lacking a significant section of the backstrip. Tears to the joints of the wraps and to the tail of the backstrip to June 1927 (No.6). Internally, firmly bound; though staples are rusting. Pages are bright and clean. Good. book.
