"One of the most discussed of current topics in philosophy of mind is the problem of personal identitythe problem of what, if any thing, makes a later person the same person as an earlier person. The book is a rare attempt to analyse the problem in its various aspects and develop a theory by way of answering the questions involved. It divides itself into three parts dealings with (1) the nature and source of the problem; (2) how it has been approached by various philosophers, traditional and contemporary; and (3) what a proper analysis of it will amount to. The theory that eventually issues out of this analysis is that bodily continuity is the primary criterion of personal identity and the claim of memory as the sole, or even primary, criterion is definitively disallowed. The ideas of disembodied existence and survival, which imply and rest upon the primacy of the memory criterion, are shown to be what they are, i.e., intelligible only in a secondary sense. Of special interest to philosophers is the finding that the problem at issue is a problem of criterion and not of defining personal identity and also an interesting and original trichotomy between definition, criterion and necessary condition." It also puts the concepts of freedom and determinism to critical test and reinterprets them from different angles and perspectives. The conventional doctrine of karma, based on the teachings of the Bhagavadgata, is relieved from its usual deterministic presentation and a logically reasonable explanation is offered. Human actions and human agency are central concepts in the philosophy of mind and action. Free will and responsibility constitute the bedrock of the moral life of the human agents and the book pinpoints that freedom is meant to undertake the goal-oriented actions. The thrust in aquaculture has led to more demand for quality stocking material. Ever increasing demand of quality seed cannot be met by collection of seed from natural resources i.e. rivers canals etc. Many aquaculturists and agencies those were earlier dependant on natural fish seed collection have switched over to artificial fish seed production in recent years. Since the establishment of Pond Culture Division of Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute at Cuttack in 1949 and presently the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture Bhubaneswar it has made epoch making contributions to R and D in aquaculture in the country. Two major technologies such as induced breeding and composite culture of carps laid the foundations of Indian Aquaculture. CIFA has developed technologies to produce seed for a prolonged duration covering pre and post monsoon months by multiple spawning of carps. This would provide full time employment to the farmers engaged in multiple breeding and thereafter for multiple cropping of table size carps. 164 pp.
