Through a lively text and abundant illustrations - most of them in full colour - Classic Savannah celebrates a city that has taken many forms and played many roles over its two-and-a-half-century history: a tiny settlement on Yamacraw Bluff, a colonial capital, a thriving cotton port, a survivor of wars, and, perhaps most notably, a modern preservation success story." ; William Robert Mitchell, Jr. was the son of William Robert Mitchell, former Comptroller General of Georgia and Georgia State Insurance Commissioner. He graduated in 1956 from The Westminster Schools, and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999. He attended Duke University for one year before transferring to Emory University where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History; Bill was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
