In den WarenkorbFirst Draft script for the 1937 film. Copy belonging to uncredited assistant art director Lionel Banks, with his ownership stamp on the front wrapper verso. Single annotation in manuscript pencil on the front wrapper, noting the surname of Art Director Steve Goosson, who won the Academy Award for his work on the film. Lionel Banks worked on over 200 films in the course of his career in film, which spanned nearly two decades. He was nominated for an Oscar seven times, and is today best remembered for his work on the Howard Hawks films "Only Angels Have Wings" (1939) and "His Girl Friday" (1940), and for George Cukor's "Holiday" (1938). Based on the 1933 novel by James Hilton. The survivors of a plane crash are rescued and taken to a monastery in the mystical valley of Shangri-La in the Himalayas, and wrestle with the decision to stay or return to Europe, where the Second World War is looming. The film was shot over a grueling ten months, with a groundbreaking $1.5 million dollar budget (which the production doubled before completion), and elaborate sets that took over a year to create. Nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning two. Shot on location throughout California, and in the Mojave Desert, Arizona. Brown titled wrappers, dated May 22, 1935, and noted as First Draft on the front wrapper, with credit for screenwriter Robert Riskin. Title page present, dated May 22, 1935, and noted as First Draft, with credit for Riskin. 215 leaves, with last page of text numbered 214. Mimeograph duplication on onionskin stock, rectos only.
