India is a country of rich resources and is catapulted to have its rightful place among developed nations soon. Agriculture is a livelihood of about 65 per cent people and livestock is part and parcel of it contribute 26 per cent of gross domestic product and accounts for about 18 per cent of export. India is richest in bovine population highest in milk production and buffalo is major milch animal of the country. To further advance the animal agriculture in general and buffalo production in particular through balanced feeding appropriate breeding management and health care a regional focus becomes inevitable. The present book illustrates a paradigm to integrated buffalo production with fifteen agro climatic regions of this vast country. On each region there has to be a separate specific know how dovetailing peculiar needs of the people of the region for equitable and sustainable growth of buffalo industry in the country along with its length and breadth. 534 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Considering the enormous cultural plurality of India and uneven socioeconomic development of its people, the Government of India listed certain communities as Scheduled Tribes (STs) for initiating development programmes and providing assured representation. Despite such provisions, in case of a few groups, the common programmes did not appear to make any headway. In fact, their population was either stagnant or declining suggesting high mortality rates. In order to ensure the development of these poorest of the poor among the ST communities, certain groups were identified initially in 1975. The criteria fixed for identification included declining or stagnant population, very low level of literacy and pre-agricultural level of technology. Thus 75 groups among the ST communities of India were identified in 17 States and 1 Union Territory, who initially were called Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs), and later renamed as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). During April to June 2012 the Anthropological Survey of India carried out a study of all the PVTGs. Its research teams visited various States, concerned tribal development agencies and non-government organizations. The survey was conducted with emphasis on gathering data on their socio-economic status and development. The team also visited the PVTG hamlets, interviewed the people, and recorded their observations with regard to development. Socio-economic status of each PVTG is described in the volume while a summary including a few suggestions is given in the introduction.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are globally used for the curative properties due to the presence of complex chemical substances belonging to diverse categories like alkaloids, glycosides, corticosteroids, essential oils, etc. However, with the changing climatic conditions and presence of various biotic and abiotic factors; huge gap exists between the demand and supply of raw materials. Amongst all the factors, cultivation of MAPs faces perilous damage from multifarious assemblage of microbes like bacteria, fungi, viruses, phytoplasmas, phytonematodes which pose serious threat to the total yield and bioactive potential of the plants. The present book entitled Diseases of medicinal and aromatic plants and their management is thus a compilation of all possible scattered information which exhaustively outlines the important diseases of MAPs, their etiology with effective management strategies. The book has different chapters which extensively deals with information on the history of causal pathogen, the distribution range, symptoms, losses suffered, epidemiology and integrated pest management approaches involving cultural, chemical, biological and genetic resources being embraced across the globe. The book has authored chapters from the leading plant pathologists of India who have used extensive range of photographs, graphs and tables for making the content easy to understand not only for students but also to scientists, growers, extension workers and policy makers. Overall, the encyclopaedic nature of this books will be useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying courses offered on MAPs and will thus be an invaluable addition to any library.

Plant pathology has been playing a vital role in accomplishing food security. In view of declining natural resources like land, water and human resources coupled with climate changes, the science of plant pathology should play a dominant role to produce more with lessening resources. It is more advanced today than ever before with new developments in disease diagnosis, the discovery of new generation molecules with low environmental impact, reliable biological control agents as well as the development of new disease resistant plant varieties. This book provides an up to date knowledge on taxonomy of fungi, threats of invasive and emerging diseases, disease diagnostics, interaction of host and pathogens, induced host resistance, utilization of biological control agents for practical applications and the underlying mechanisms, RNAi mediated gene silencing, strategi.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. India ranks second in fruit production in the world, after China. As per National Horticulture Database during 2020-21, India produced 102.48 million metric tonnes of fruits and the area under cultivation of fruits stood at 9.6 million hectares. Therefore, it can be said that the fruits are the real wealth in India and it contributes significantly in the national GDP and economy of our country. The book on "Guide Book of Fruit Diseases" focuses primarily on diseases of important temperate, tropical and subtropical fruit crops like apple, banana, citrus, grape, guava, mango, litchi, jackfruit, dragon fruit, ber, bel, aonla, sapota, etc. The geographical distribution, crop losses, symptoms, causal organisms, favourable conditions, disease cycle and efficient management with new advances of each crop are presented. High-quality photographs are included in each chapter for the better identification of symptom. Though significant work has been done on the diseases of these crops over the years, consolidated information on the diseases of these crops are lacking in one place. The information on the diseases of fruit crops are given in crisp manner, so that it is easily understandable and are of practical utility. In this book disease cycle of different diseases are also depicted, which give better understanding of the disease. The photographs of the symptom will be useful for identifying the disease by the fruit workers. The chapters are contributed by the leading specialist scientists of the concerned fruit crop which gives authentic information of the concerned fruit. The information compiled in this book would be useful for growers/farmers, consultants, managers, horticulturists, plant pathologists, extension workers, teachers, students and agribusiness representatives, who are concerned with the fruit cultivation.
