All vols VG copies, bindings square and tight, cloth covers clean, some gentle sunning to spines, title labels a little rubbed and worn, some light foxing and damp staining to prelims, otherwise internally very good. Contemporary ink name on vol.1 original ffep, along with a different name to each title page verso deleted. From the private library of English Establishment artist Sir Lawrence Gowing (1918-1991), although no indication of provenance appears in the book. It was likely acquired from his first wife, English writer and Bloomsbury group member Julia Strachey (1901-1979), as many of his older books were.
