Hardcover. Zustand: As New. 1st Edition. Hardcover, 232 pgs. 8.25 x 10.25 in. Signed by authors/artists Justine Kurland and Bean Gilsdorf on title page. As new. This lush volume by Justine Kurland reconfigures the history of collage through the work of 44 artists, from Ruth Asawa to Deborah Roberts. With a sprawling, loose interpretation of collage s past and present definitions, curator Justine Kurland presents The Rose: a compendium of 44 contemporary artists working in or around the medium. Choosing collage, Kurland argues, is an inherently political and contradictory method, as it allows artists to reframe and recontextualize all that we know. Artists include: Ruth Asawa, Vija Celmins, Philo Cohen, Jay DeFeo, Leslie Hewitt, Kiki Kogelnik, Wangechi Mutu, Frida Orupabo, Wendy Red Star, Deborah Roberts, Martha Naranjo Sandoval, Keisha Scarville, Gwen Smith, Pamela Sneed, Lorna Simpson, Hannah Wilke, Francesca Woodman. Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xix, [1], 315, [1] pages. Illustrated endpapers. Foreword by Barry Goldwater. Illustrations. Endnotes. Inscribed by the author on the title page. Inscription reads To Cokie--an old and dear friend. Best wishes and Love, Libby Miller Fitzgerald. This was inscribed to Cokie Roberts and acquired from her estate at Quinn's Auction. The author has a background in journalism. She worked for TIME, Inc. and for about two decades she worked at the ABC television affiliate station as a news reporters and as a moderator/producer of numerous public affairs programs and documentaries. She has also worked for National Public Radio and has anchored election night coverage. Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne "Cokie" Roberts (née Boggs; December 27, 1943 - September 17, 2019) was an American journalist and author. Her career included decades as a political reporter and analyst for National Public Radio, PBS, and ABC News, with prominent positions on Morning Edition, The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, World News Tonight, and This Week. She was considered one of NPR's "Founding Mothers" along with Susan Stamberg, Linda Wertheimer and Nina Totenberg. Roberts, along with her husband, Steve, wrote a weekly column syndicated by United Media in newspapers around the United States. She served on the boards of several non-profit organizations such as the Kaiser Family Foundation and was appointed by President George W. Bush to his Council on Service and Civic Participation. A remarkable man -- a heartwarming journey of a daughter discovering the highs and lows of a prominent father's political career and its considerable impact on his party, the Congress, and his own family. An engaging story -- as surprising as it is unknown -- of the one-time GOP National Chairman and 1964 Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, a man who was a politician in the best sense of that now demeaned word, a memorable leader with a unique understanding of politics and its players, a moderate, flexible conservative and a deeply compassionate human being, a spellbinding orator. Well-documented and personal, this book is a must-read, chock full of insider insights into the events and people who created the history of the 1950s and '60s.
