Kunc studierte von 1964 bis 1967 an der Kunstakademie Prag. 1969 emigrierte er in die BRD und studierte von 1970 bis 1975 an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf bei Manfred Sieler, Joseph Beuys und Gerhard Richter. 1979 Gründung der Gruppe Normal (Peter Angermann, Jan Knap, Milan Kunc). Neben seiner Malerei schuf Kunc Skulpturen, Fotoarbeiten und veranstaltete Performances und Straßenaktionen in Wuppertal. Ab 1980 setzte er das künstlerische Programm Internationale Folklore", eine allgemein verständliche Kunst für das Volk, um. Kunc lebte in Köln, Rom, New York City sowie in Den Haag und kehrte 2004 nach Prag zurück. 2019 gestaltete er einen BMW i8 mit dem Thema der drängenden Umweltfragen unserer Zeit. Milan Kunc, like any true nomad, internalises his experiences of form and language. He traverses and appropriates situations and historical moments as he encounters them; painting is the way to record them and translate them into symbols. Consequently, the space defined by the canvas turns into a series of personal and bizarre sites in which his fragmentary, nomadic and multifarious perceptions are re-situated and preserved. As bearers of his experiences, the paintings replace the home, furniture; those public, social and spiritual places which in every urban and territorial culture, are the means by which its very signs, codes and fetishes of linguistic pertinence are organized, diffused and passed on. In fact, Kunc has a particular attitude concerning the consumption of material goods, primarily oriented towards the purchase of airline tickets and the general costs involved in being "in transit". He avoids the moment of choosing a home base, even if he can afford to do so, and favours random and temporary visits.
