The keyhole limpet, Fissurella impedimentum Cooke, from the Gulf of Suez, is poorly described in the literature. The syntypes of F. impedimentum are described and illustrated. Their preservation suggests that the form is from the raised shell beds of the Gulf of Suez. Capulina ruppelli var. barroni Newton is a junior synonym. 2 pp. + 1 pl., gr. 8.

A redescription of Terebra castigata Cooke, 1885 is given. A lectotype is selected from among the syntypes in the McAndrew collection of the University of Cambridge. The species seems to be confined to the Northern part of the Red Sea incl. the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Elat. 5 pp., 3 figs, gr. 8.

Two species of the arcid genus Trisidos live in the Erythraean region, T. tortuosa (L., 1758) and T. semitorta (Lam., 1819). The former is already known to occur in the Gulf of Aden and the southern Red Sea. The presence of the latter near Aden is documented here. 1 pp., gr. 8.

Cold-Water Coral Reefs of the World | Erik Cordes (u. a.) | Taschenbuch | Coral Reefs of the World | xvi | Englisch | 2024 | Springer | EAN 9783031408991 | Verantwortliche Person für die EU: Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg, juergen[dot]hartmann[at]springer[dot]com | Anbieter: preigu.
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Cold-water corals form reef structures in continental margin and seamount settings world-wide, making them more wide-spread and abundant than shallow-water reefs. Their role in these ecosystems is no less important than the influence that shallow-water coral reefs have on tropical systems. They create habitat structure, host endemic species, enhance elemental cycling, alter current flow, sequester carbon, and provide many other ecosystem services that we are just beginning to understand. The rapidly evolving state of knowledge of cold-water and deep-sea coral reefs has not been compiled in over 10 years. This volume synthesizes recent and historical information, reveals new findings from reefs that have been discovered only recently, and presents key avenues for future research. We are on the cusp of understanding the critical role that cold-water coral reefs play in the world's oceans, and this book lays the foundation on which this knowledge will be built in the future.
