Prima edizione di questa importante e vasta monografia dedicata all'opera scultorea e artistica del celebre artista nato a Poggibonsi in provincia di Siena nel 1931. L'opera segna il periodo del passaggio di Calonaci dal Periodo dei Tatuaggi a quello detto "Le Macchine del sole". "VII Periodo Le macchine del Sole 1991 - 1996Nel lavoro dallo scorcio degli anni Ottanta sino al presente, il principio dell'energia cosmica vitale si fissa nel concetto di "Macchina del Sole". È ciò che si muove e che vive di energia, funzionando come fosse una macchina costruita da un'intelligenza superiore, misteriosa, logica (fotosintesi, processo clorofilliano). Le piante e l'uomo, come tutti gli esseri viventi, hanno adattato il loro habitat in funzione di questa energia, ogni specie con la propria nicchia ecologica, che per l'uomo è stata la caverna, la casa, gli agglomerati di caverne e di case, la città. La città è simbolo di energia confluente nel dinamismo della vita collettiva, e dunque si possono immaginare città di "festa", di "sole", di "mare", di "terra", di "cielo". Ogni scultura, ogni dipinto si fa simbolo o veramente ideale progetto e modello di una "macchina-città del Sole", come forma possibile di un'utopia costruttiva che indichi la nuova dimensione inventata dall'uomo con la complicità del sole.
