In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -This pioneering text provides a comprehensive introduction to systems structure, function, and modeling as applied in all fields of science and engineering. Systems understanding is increasingly recognized as a key to a more holistic education and greater problem solving skills, and is also reflected in the trend toward interdisciplinary approaches to research on complex phenomena. While the concepts and components of systems science will continue to be distributed throughout the various disciplines, undergraduate degree programs in systems science are also being developed, including at the authors¿ own institutions. However, the subject is approached, systems science as a basis for understanding the components and drivers of phenomena at all scales should be viewed with the same importance as a traditional liberal arts education.Principles of Systems Science contains many graphs, illustrations, side bars, examples, and problems to enhance understanding. Frombasic principles of organization, complexity, abstract representations, and behavior (dynamics) to deeper aspects such as the relations between information, knowledge, computation, and system control, to higher order aspects such as auto-organization, emergence and evolution, the book provides an integrated perspective on the comprehensive nature of systems. It ends with practical aspects such as systems analysis, computer modeling, and systems engineering that demonstrate how the knowledge of systems can be used to solve problems in the real world. Each chapter is broken into parts beginning with qualitative descriptions that stand alone for students who have taken intermediate algebra. The second part presents quantitative descriptions that are based on pre-calculus and advanced algebra, providing a more formal treatment for students who have the necessary mathematical background. Numerous examples of systems from every realm of life, including the physical and biological sciences, humanities, social sciences, engineering, pre-med and pre-law, are based on the fundamental systems concepts of boundaries, components as subsystems, processes as flows of materials, energy, and messages, work accomplished, functions performed, hierarchical structures, and more. Understanding these basics enables further understanding both of how systems endure and how they may become increasingly complex and exhibit new properties or characteristics.Serves as a textbook for teaching systems fundamentals in any discipline or for use in an introductory course in systems science degree programsAddresses a wide range of audiences with different levels of mathematical sophisticationIncludes open-ended questions in special boxes intended to stimulate integrated thinking and class discussionDescribes numerous examples of systems in science and societyCaptures the trend towards interdisciplinary research and problem solvingSpringer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 792 pp. Englisch.

Lagerspuren. - Englisch. - Vorworte von Kang Suk-Hun; Edgar Heim; Uwe Henrik Peters / u.a. ----- " . The 16th International Congress Psychotherapy: East & West (Integration of Psychotherapy) was an absolutely unusual, in many respects new and tremendously successful scientific event. The selection of speakers, the organization in general and in detail, the possibilities to talk with each other, the overwhelming hospitality and friendliness of all the staff and much more have contributed to the success of this unusual event. I had the impression that a new era of thorough investigation and discussion of the theme of the congress has started, an era of East-West integration. Personally it has stipulated me for further reading and perhaps writing about the relationship of German philosophy and psychotherapy to Tao and the Eastern literature and philosophy. This first paragraph so to say represents my first reaction after the end of the congress. In the few months since I have been thinking about the background of an opinion which obviously was not only my own, but was shared by many other participants. The European countries had been in touch with Eastern countries, as is well known, for hundreds of years, but the aims for a very long time were only economic resources, geographical knowledges and political chances. Religion, philosophy and literature found only a marginal interest if any. This attitude changed completely in the time of Enlightenment, when in central Europe new philosophies sprang up like flowers in the summer after rain. These philosophies gradually became independent from organised Christianity, as was the Church. Religions became to be seen as different ways to the same truth, no one being basically more worthy than the other. The philosophers - and right in the beginning together with them the psychotherapists (sometimes this made no difference) - became interested in Eastern religions, philosophies and literatures. Quite a number of them learnt to read Eastern languages, in order to be able to read the originals, and they have translated a part of their reading into Western languages. It is interesting, by the way, that reading was so much more pronounced compared to speaking. " (Uwe Henrik Peters) // INHALT (Auswahl) : JOO Eunsun, M.D., Hae Ahm Kim, M.D., David E.
