Staple-Bound. Zustand: Fair to Good. Assumed First Edition. A charming cycle of eight vocal duets by this gifted but relatively unknown American composer, setting texts from the plays of Elizabethan dramatists Beaumont and Fletcher. CONTENTS: [1] "We are arrived among the blessed Islands." (from The Island Princess); [2] "Hold back thy hours, dark Night." (from The Maid's Tragedy); [3] "Once more I would but see."(from The Two Noble Kinsmen); [4] "I cannot either fear, or entertain a weary thought." (from The Knight of the Burning Pestle); [5] "O fair sweet flower." (from The Humorous Lieutenant); [6] "Weep no more." (from The Queen of Corinth); [7] "Care-charming Sleep." (from Valentinian); [8] "Take, oh take those lips away." (from The Bloody Brother). 35 pages. CONDITION: A Fair to Good unmarked copy of this exceedingly scarce vocal score, staple-bound without a cover, its first and last pages considerably worn (edge-/corner-wear) and discolored. The front page (page 1 of the score itself) shows the age-tanning typical of scores printed via the Ozalid process (though not obscuring the notation), while the blank back page has a large water-stain (which has bled into the upper outer corners of most pages. The "good news": Pages 2-35 are very clear, age-darkened only in the margins. (See the accompanying scan images of page 1 and page 16 for comparison.) This very rare cycle is now nestled in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.
