Heinrich Friedrich Zimmer (* 11. Dezember 1851 in Kastellaun; ? 29. Juli 1910 in Hahnenklee) war ein deutscher Keltologe und Indologe. Er war der erste deutsche Professor für Keltologie. Er studierte Altphilologie, dazu Indologie (Sanskrit) und Keltologie. An der Universität Tübingen gehörte der bedeutende Indologe Rudolf von Roth zu seinen Lehrern. Im Jahre 1878 habilitierte sich Zimmer an der Universität Berlin. Im Wintersemester 1878/1879 studierte der junge Ferdinand de Saussure bei ihm. 1881 wurde Zimmer als Professor für Sanskrit und vergleichende Sprachkunde an die Universität Greifswald berufen. 1901 übernahm er an der damaligen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin einen Lehrstuhl für keltische Sprachen, den ersten überhaupt in Deutschland. Kuno Meyer (* 20. Dezember 1858 in Hamburg; ? 11. Oktober 1919 in Leipzig) war ein deutscher Keltologe. Meyer, Bruder des Althistorikers Eduard Meyer, studierte seit 1879 an der Universität Leipzig bei Ernst Windisch und wurde 1884 mit einer Arbeit über Eine irische Version der Alexandersage (eine irische Sammlung von Legenden zu Alexander dem Großen) zum Dr. phil. promoviert. Anschließend wurde er Dozent für germanische Sprachen am University College Liverpool, dem Vorläufer der University of Liverpool. In der Folgezeit schrieb er auf Englisch und Deutsch Veröffentlichungen über das Irische, allgemein zu den keltischen Sprachen und Lehrbücher der deutschen Sprache. Mit Ludwig Christian Stern gründete er 1896 die einflussreiche Zeitschrift für celtische Philologie. 1911 wurde er als Nachfolger von Heinrich Zimmer, der den ersten Lehrstuhl für Keltologie innegehabt hatte, an die Berliner Universität berufen. Im selben Jahr wurde er als ordentliches Mitglied in die Preußische Akademie der Wissenschaften aufgenommen. Heinrich Morf (* 23. Oktober 1854 in Münchenbuchsee; ? 23. Januar 1921 in Thun) war ein Schweizer Romanist, Sprachwissenschaftler und Literaturwissenschaftler. Als Sprachwissenschaftler erkannte Morf früh die Bedeutung der Dialektforschung. Auf seine Anregung hin begründeten seine Zürcher Schüler Louis Gauchat, Ernst Tappolet und Jules Jeanjaquet das Glossaire des patois de la Suisse romande. Er gehörte auch zu den Professoren, die sich aktiv für eine neue Lehrerausbildung einsetzten. In seiner Zürcher Antrittsvorlesung erklärte er: ?Der neusprachliche Unterricht darf nicht länger auf der antiquierten mittelalterlichen Sprachbetrachtung beruhen, sondern soll sich auf die heutigen Anschauungen von der Natur der Sprache und des sprachlichen Geschehens gründen? Wilhelm Meyer-Lübke (* 30. Januar 1861 in Dübendorf; ? 4. Oktober 1936 in Bonn) war ein Schweizer Romanist und Sprachwissenschaftler. Er gehört zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern der romanischen Sprachwissenschaft. Wilhelm Meyer-Lübke, ein Neffe des Dichters Conrad Ferdinand Meyer, studierte in Zürich (bei Heinrich Schweizer-Sidler) und Berlin (bei Johannes Schmidt) vor allem Indogermanistik, promovierte dann jedoch romanistisch in Zürich über Die Schicksale des lateinischen Neutrums im Romanischen (Halle a.S. 1883). Nach einem Italienaufenthalt habilitierte er sich 1884 ebenfalls in Zürich und hörte dann in Paris Vorlesungen bei Gaston Paris. Der Zürcher Privatdozent erhielt 1887 einen Ruf als außerordentlicher Professor für vergleichende Sprachwissenschaft nach Jena. Von da wurde er 1890 nach Wien berufen, wo er von 1892 bis 1915 als ordentlicher Professor der romanischen Philologie seine große Zeit hatte, auch Dekan und Rektor war.
