An epidemic of diabetes is reported and by 2025 it is predicted that there will be 330 million people with diabetes in the world. Diabetes is likely to present one of this century's greatest medical challenges. However, the impact of diabetes on the individual and their carers is equally important. This book provides an easy to understand guide to diabetes and is aimed at all those living with diabetes. This book gives an overall introduction to diabetes including a short history of diabetes, causes, symptoms, possible complications, management (both of diabetes and the associated risk factors), psychological factors and what care to expect. It emphasises self management and gives invaluable advice on how to achieve this. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

At 25 degrees C, the oxygen consumption of the irradiated animals was higher than that of nonirradiated animals by the difference was not significant until the animals were 13 months old. There was no histologic evidence of irradiation injury in sections of the adrenal, the bone marrow, the ear (pinna), the eyes, the kidney, the liver, the lung, the lymph nodes, the peripheral blood, the pituitary, the prostate, the tail, the testis, the thyroid, and the tongue. The Testis was markedly atrophic, chronic pyelonephritis was common and ear lesions appeared in all the 5 degree C animals. The United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) is the United States Air Force (USAF) organization focused on education, research, and worldwide operational consultation in aerospace and operational medicine. USAFSAM was founded in 1918 to conduct research into the medical and physiologic domains related to human flight, and as a school for medical officers trained to support military aviation operations, later coined as flight surgeons. The school supported early military aviation from World War I through the evolution of aviation and into the modern era. USAFSAM actively supported civilian and military manned space missions through clinical and physiologic research. USAFSAM is the oldest continually operating school for flight surgeons and other operational medical personnel of its kind in the world. USAFSAM is located in Dayton, Ohio at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and is part of the 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

First part of the volume with some scattered brownspots. This paper describes the discovery of the digestive action of the pancreatic juice in the first phase of of fat metabolism. The paper was published in 3 journals at the same time, and was later in 1856 expanded into a book."Bernard's most impressive discoveries in the field of digestion proper concerns the function of the pancreas, especially the importence of pancreatic juice in the digestion and absorption of fats."(DSB II, p. 28).Garrison & Morton No 996. The volume contains another famous and importent paper: EDMOND BECQUEREL. "De L'Image colorrées obtenues à la chambre obscure." Pp.447-474."The results of the investigations of Edmund Becquerel on photochromy, surpassed all those preceding them. He prepared his sensitive film by polishing a silver plate and immersing it in a metal perchloride solution or in chlorine water" a violent film of silver subchloride formed, which under the influence of colored glass or of the spectrum takes on the impression received and which retains this color photograph as long as subsequent light action is avoided.Niepce de Saint-Victor devoted himself from 1851 to 1866 to Becquerel's method of heliochromy with chlorinated silver plates, improved the process, and obtained more brilliant and more vivid colors than those of his predecessor."(Eder "History of Photography", p. 664).
