Erstausgabe Signiert
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Presentation Copy. SIGNED. 158pp. Octavo [24 cm] Light blue cloth with a gilt stamped title on the front board. The volume shows some light shelf wear, age toning, and some minor sporadic staining. There is one small tear with a loss to the final page of text at the fore-edge (this does not affect or obscure any printed text). Else, this a solid and clean copy. Inscribed and signed by the author on the front free endpaper in black ink to former Utah House of Representatives and Utah State Senator, Don Byron Colton (1876-1952): "To | Senator Colton, | With the compliments of the Author | Alice Merrill Home | Feb. 12, 1915." Below this inscription is also the previous ownership signature (in blue ink) of Alice Colton Smith (daughter of Don Byron Colton), dated 1965. Alice Colton Smith (1913-2006) was a student and later Professor of Sociology at Utah State University. Lovely presentation copy of this foundational work on Utah art and artists, inscribed by the author to a noteworthy figure in Utah's history, which was subsequently passed down through his family. This work is the first book published on Utah artists, architecture and applied arts. Includes the "big ten" of early Utah artists: James Harwood, Lee Greene Richards, Mahonri Young, Cyrus Dallin, H.L.A. Culmer, George Ottinger, Alfred Lambourne, Daniel Weggeland, C.C.A. Christensen, and John Hafen. Much on the history of early Utah art, artists, and schools. Flake 4089.
