Melanie Wasmuth zeigt, dass in Ägypten eine wesentlich breitere und diver…sifiziertere Quellenlage zur Verfügung steht, als in der Regel zur Untersuchung der Perserherrschaften über Ägypten herangezogen wird. Zumindest für Darius I. lässt sich anhand der Quellen beobachten, dass der Herrscher in Ägypten in vier verschiedenen Rollen inszeniert wurde: als persischer Großkönig, als ägyptischer Pharao, als ägyptischer Gott und als ägypto-persischer Herrscher. Besonders die Verschmelzung der beiden absoluten Herrscherkonzeptionen eines persischen Großkönigs und eines ägyptischen Pharaos zu einem integrierten, ägypto-persischen Königtum erlaubt Einblicke in die angewendeten Strategien der Herrscherpräsentation und kulturübergreifenden Identitätskonstruktion. In der Persis liegt der Fokus primär auf der Repräsentation des Weltherrschaftsanspruchs als persischer Großkönig.
