The Georgia Straight was founded and first published in 1967 as an underground, counter-culture newspaper and challenged conformity and authority. Tens of thousands of people think the GS is provocative, funny, thoughtful, courageous, honest, and joyous. Then there are those who, whether or not they've read a copy, think it to be obscene, immoral, vulgar, and subversive. The editor was arrested on the day after the Straight's office opened, and began what is one of the most blatant and abusive attempts at censorship in Canadian history. The paper was designated Member, Anarchist Press Movement. This issue focuses on marijuana. Light smudging, water stains; all text is clean and legible.
