It contains all texts previously published as elements of the first seven Knife Edge Books, with an introductory text.' 'Ladder composed of original screenprinted images by Bruce McLean with a text by Mel Gooding, is the second book to be published by Knife Edge Press. It was printed under the direction of Michael Schonke at the Druckwerkstatt (Kulterwerk of BBK), Berlin-Kreuzberg in December 1986. This edition was published in the Autumn of 1986 and limited to 250 copies, each signed and dated by Bruce McLean and Mel Gooding.' This is no: 243 signed on the rear end paper by McLean and Mel Gooding in 1987.

Limited edition, number 128 or 250. 275x270mm. Signed by McLean and Gooding. Original black cloth illustrated in blind with a fold-out ladder. Housed in original black and white illustrated slipcase. Unpaginated. Twelve screenprints of ladders with, on the page opposite a short text describing an attribute of a ladder. For example: "Breughel's ladders are the tongues of Babel" and "It was used by cathedral builders and in the storming of castle walls" and "In dreams and visions it may reach up to Heaven be peopled by angels". Some very slight marking to the cover and to slipcase but otherwise a fine copy. Gooding and McLean worked together on a number of artists's books including Dreamwork (1985), A Scone Off a Plate (1990) and Knife Edge Academy: The Prospectus (1992).
