Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - My People as Your People provides an in-depth analysis of the chronology, history, and archaeology associated with the reign of Jehoshaphat of Judah. The synthesis of these various elements illuminates a diverse geo-political picture of the southern Levant in the mid-ninth century BCE. In recent years, archaeologists and biblical scholars have dealt quite extensively with the tenth and eighth centuries BCE due to both the controversial aspects of recent interpretations associated with the so-called United Kingdom and the established archaeological data relating to Judah's rise as a significant polity in the eighth century BCE. On the other hand, the ninth century BCE has received considerably less scholarly treatment, despite the fact that many new archaeological strata have been uncovered in recent years that have a direct bearing upon this period. My People as Your People is an attempt to fill this gap in our knowledge. In accomplishing this, it both provides a nuanced understanding of Judah in the mid-ninth century BCE and also demonstrates the significance of this period in the larger setting of the history of the Divided Kingdom.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Historical geographic studies dominated early biblical and ancient Near Eastern studies as scholars sought to identify and link modern sites and regions with those mentioned in the Bible and other primary sources. As a result, hundreds of ancient sites were identified and the contexts in which past events unfolded were clarified. Yet, for the past generation, little work has been done in historical geography. To begin to correct this lacuna, this volume presents twelve studies that move the field of historical geography into the 21st century, calling for its re-awakening in light of recent archaeological discoveries and developments in textual analysis. The volume includes studies on the history of the field, historical geography of Late Bronze Age and early Iron Age Egypt and Canaan, the role of geography in dating biblical texts, and historical geography of the Hebrew Bible, Second Temple Period, and the New Testament. This volume will be of interest to archaeologists and textual scholars alike because the individual studies highlight how historical geography provides insight into the use of political/religious ideology in ancient written sources, the composition/redaction of the Hebrew Bible, and settlement trends and land use.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Late Bronze Age in the Levant is a period of much interest to archaeologists, historians and biblical scholars. This is a period with intense international relations, rich in ancient sources, which provide historical data for the period, and is a crucial formative period for the peoples and cultures who play central roles in the Hebrew Bible. Recent archaeological research in Israel and surrounding countries has provided new, exciting, and in some cases, groundbreaking finds, interpretations and understanding of this period. The fourteen papers in this volume represent the proceedings of a conference held at Bar-Ilan University in 2014 (with the additional of several invited papers not presented at the conference), which provide both overviews of Late Bronze Age finds from several important sites in Israel and surrounding countries, as well as several synthetic studies on the various issues relating to the period. These papers, by and large, represent a broad view of cuttting edge research in the archaeology of the ancient Levant in general, and on the Late Bronze Age specifically.…
