The exhibition on this occasion is devoted to Chinese and South-East Asian ceramics, mainly of the varieties used as trade wares in centuries past.Sir John Addis has honoured the society by writing the introduction to the Chinese ceramics section of the exhibition, which has been supplemented by essays on specific subjects by Dr Ip Yee, Dr Adrian Joseph, Dr Philip Wen-chee Mao and myself; and Roxanna M. Brown has generously consented to write the introduction to the South-East Asian wares section. Sir John's encouragement of the society from its beginnings has been most welcome, and we are particularly pleased that both he and Ms Brown should consent to write introductions in view of their well-known expertise in many of the types of ceramics included. It is hoped that this exhibition will give new stimulus to interest in the subject and provide new collectors with a basic knowledge of the types of wares which can occasionally still be found today in the markets of South-East Asia.
