With a character essay of McCrae by Sir Andrew Macphail. The well known poem 'In Flanders Fields' by McCrae published in facsimile on p15. Presentation copy given to W. Hastings Anderson, head of the Staff College in 1919 by James Dundas. Anderson [1872 - 1930] served in the 2nd Boer War and was Chief of Staff of the First Army in W.W.I. Dundas [1883 - 1966] was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1917. Sml 8vo, 168pp, blue cloth boards, gilt title on spine and front with decoration, frontis. Two silvertone photographs of the areas of Avelvy and Guedecourt from Guards Cemetery Les Boeufs, laid down with captions by Dundas. Both are cemeteries for fallen Allied forces. Light damp mark at top of one plate; pencil notation below poem 'The Anxious Dead' on p17, 'Aug-Nov 1918'. Spine rubbed at tips and corners, otherwise vgc.

Above-average wear. Music store stamp and bit of writing upon front cover. Small sticker removal mark on back cover. A worthy vintage copy of this historic work.
