The name Tahoe Tessie came naturally enough inspired by the wolrd's most famous "monster" in Loch Ness - "Nessie". That night at the campfire, no doubt influenced by the full moon, I began concocting an elaborate story about her. In the summer of 1984, a rash of highly publicized "monster" sightings in Lake Tahoe drew the attention of the national wire services and spurred me to action. If I did not get on with it, somebody else would surely have a similar idea and I might lose the initiative. We produced the first T-Shirt that fall to get "Tahoe Tessie, the Original Lake Tahoe Monster" trademarked, and started writing and illustrating the story in earnest.
