Stapled wraps. Zustand: Very Good+. First Edition. [minor edgewear, faint vertical stain line on front cover, a trace of foxing along edge of rear cover,] (B&W photographs) Tribute book issued in conjunction with the AFI's Life Achievement Award presentation to Miss Gish, at that time only the second woman to have received the honor. (The first was Bette Davis, in 1977.) Includes filmography and brief excerpts from various books and articles about the actress, plus the unavoidable couple of pages of AFI self-puffery near the end.

Stapled wraps. Zustand: Very Good. [modestly worn, with some light scuffing/scraping on the front cover; the "Guest Seating" insert has a large piece torn out of the upper right corner of the front cover (no loss of content)]. (B&W photographs) Nice program/tribute book, largely photographic; also includes short essays by Arlene Croce, John Green, Marcelle Clements, and Adolph Green, plus a filmography. NOTE that this is the silver-covered edition, indicating that it was actually the property of someone who attended the event (as opposed to the "souvenir" editions which AFI also produced for distribution/sale to its members, which had pictorial covers). As further evidence that this copy belonged to an attendee, it contains the 8-page "Guest Seating" insert, which lists everybody in attendance, with their table numbers. (This copy does, however, lack the 8-page beige-stock insert noted by at least one other bookseller.).

Stapled wraps. Zustand: Near Fine. [a small amount of wear along the spine, otherwise nice and fresh, just about as new]. (B&W photographs) Nicely-done program/tribute book, largely photographic, from Capra's Life Achievement Award dinner; includes filmography. It's interesting to note that the tribute book's editor (also the co-author of the tribute itself) was Joseph McBride, who some years later published a highly critical biography of Capra. NOTE that this would appear to be the "public" version of the program, with Capra pictured on the front cover, that was produced for sale and/or distribution to AFI members; the program distributed at the dinner itself, following the pattern of earlier years, had a silver-on-silver cover featuring only the AFI logo). Nonetheless, along with most of these programs prior to 1986 -- the first time a specifically-labeled "AFI Souvenir Edition" was produced in large quantities -- this one is fairly scarce.].

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good+ dj. First Edition. [nice-looking book, no discernible wear and very clean internally except for what appears to be some liquid-paper "touch-up" on the endpapers, apparently to hide some minor staining; the jacket, too, has some minor staining (from old tape, now removed) on the flaps and at the bottom edge of the rear panel, and a touch of wear at the upper corners of the front panel]. (Film Focus) Series (B&W photographs) An excellent collection of critical pieces on the much-admired American film director. The book includes an interview with Hawks (actually the transcript of an audience discussion at the 1970 Chicago Film Festival), plus essays by Manny Farber, Andrew Sarris, Henri Langlois, Jacques Rivette, Robin Wood, Richard Thompson, Peter Bogdanovich, and others. Films singled out for individual attention in the essays are RIO BRAVO, MAN'S FAVORITE SPORT?, EL DORADO and RIO LOBO. Filmography, selected bibliography, index. The "Film Focus" series was mostly issued in softcover format, with the jacketed hardcover issues being commensurately uncommon.
