Erstausgabe
Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. xii, 371, [1] pages. Footnotes. Illustrations. Index. Preface by Detlef Junker. Black mark on bottom edge. Lloyd C. Gardner (born 1934) is an American historian, a member of the "Wisconsin School" of diplomatic history along with Walter LaFeber and Thomas J. McCormick. He was educated at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Gardner was the Charles and Mary Beard Professor of History at Rutgers University, where taught since 1963. A specialist in 20th century History of U.S. foreign policy, Gardner has held several national fellowships, including two Fulbright Professorships in England and Finland, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is author or editor of 16 books on American foreign policy. Wilfried Mausbach has been a research fellow at the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C., and has held assistant professorships in history at both the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University Berlin and Heidelberg University. Presenting new perspectives on the Vietnam War, its global repercussions, and its role in modern history, this volume reveals "America's War" as an international event that reverberated worldwide. The essays address political, military, and diplomatic issues and the cultural and intellectual consequences of "Vietnam." They compare the Vietnam War to other major conflicts in world history. "America's War" is depicted as a global event whose origins and characteristics deserve an interdisciplinary treatment. Among the contributors are: Michael Adas, Sabine Behrenbeck, Peter Edwards, Fabian Hilfrich, Christopher Jeperson, Jeffry Kimball, Arne Kislenko, Fredrik Logevall, Leopolda Nuti, John Prados, Eva-Maria Stolberg, Barbara Tishler, Gunder Wernicke, and Hubert Zimmerman. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing.

1. Auflage, 334 S., Groß-Oktav, Einband leicht unfrisch, innen sehr gutes Exemplar, illustrierter Original-Pappband,
Gebundene Ausgabe. Zustand: Sehr gut. Gebraucht - Sehr gut ungelesen, sehr guter Zustand; Rechnung mit MwSt.; unused/unread, very good condition; -'The collection addresses several issues that are currently very important growth areas in scholarship: protest movements, their transnational connections, the question of Americanization/Westernization in Europe, and the 1960s/1970s in general as an important watershed in postwar history. There have been other recent works that have focused on these issues, but this collection has the advantage of being truly transatlantic in its approach and in the inclusion of some of the most interesting younger scholars working in the field.' Ronald Granieri, University of Pennsylvania 'This tantalizing volume explores the neglected impact of intercultural exchanges during the 1968 generational rebellion by focusing on German-American transfers of critical ideas, protest practices and feelings of solidarity. It especially emphasizes the close connection between freeing personal life-styles and liberating politics at home and abroad.' Konrad Jarausch, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Zentrum fuer Zeithistorische Forschung in Potsdam 'This wonderfully innovative compilation of scholarly articles and participant recollections tackles the multifaceted transfer of ideas and people between West Germany and the United States to shed new light on 1960s protests and their long afterlife.' Uta G. Poiger, University of Washington A captivating time, the 60s and 70s now draw more attention than ever. The first substantial work by historians has appeared only in the last few years, and this volume offers an important contribution. These meticulously researched essays offer new perspectives on the Cold War and global relations in the 1960s and 70s through the perspective of the youth movements that shook the U.S., Western Europe, and beyond. These movements led to the transformation of diplomatic relations and domestic political cultures, as well as ideas about democracy and who best understood and promoted it. Bringing together scholars of several countries and many disciplines, this volume also uniquely features the reflections of former activists. Belinda Davis is Associate Professor of History at Rutgers University. Wilfried Mausbach is the Executive Director of the Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA) at the University of Heidelberg. Martin Klimke is a postdoctoral fellow at the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C. Carla MacDougall is a doctoral student at Rutgers University. 358 pp. Englisch.

Zustand: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: leichte Lagerspuren. Multidisciplinary Perspectives. Edited by Wilfried Mausbach, Dietmar Schloss and Martin Thunert. The task of this book is to characterize the modern American presidency from a variety of academic disciplines such as history, political science and cultural studies as well as from different theoretical approaches. The essays collected in this volume grew out of conference papers held at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the German Association for American Studies (DGfA), which was held in Heidelberg between May 15 and 18, 2008. Many essays are deliberately interpretive, some offer assessments of individual presidents and of particular events, others are more contextual and focus on presidential performance, on presidential rhetoric or on representations of the presidency in fiction, film and drama. 390 Seiten, gebunden (American Studies; Vol. 205/Winter Verlag 2012). A distinguished group of more than a dozen authors from universities in the United States, Germany and the European University Institute representing academic disciplines such as economics, law, political science, religious and cultural studies etc. offers unique transatlantic perspectives on issues such as the role of markets as well as regulatory regimes, or the role of educational systems in a globalized world. Experts examine, whether the welfare state will be replaced by a market state, reflect on the complex relationship between religion and capitalism, and analyze the rights-bearing individual and its relationship to the market and the state. Together, the contributions in this volume paint a fascinating panoply of the ways in which globalization, or talk of it, affects ideas of the relation between state and market in all kinds of different realms.
