Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 12mo. measuring 7" x 5.5". 19pp. Approximately 450 words. Decorative black leather boards with embossed and gilt designs, titled "Rose-Bud Album". A chip in the spine crown with edge wear and foxing on the pages, else near fine. Includes four printed plates. A remembrance album compiled by Christina L. Mason which was gifted to her by a friend and followed her life from 1862 through 1867 while she was living in Ticonderoga, New York and Hydeville and West Castleton in Virginia. There is an inscription to Mason in the front of the album, "This album is dedicated as an expression respect; by her friend, Arthur J. Ingalls". The album is filled with notes and poems asking the Mason not to forget them or how much they meant in their lives, "May health and smiles be ever shine," "Sacred to Friendship," and, "It doth not yet appear what we shall be". The poems are about purity, innocence, and love for god, "If this joy be yours you then may close the volume with a grateful smile and lay it affably at your heavenly father's feet". Another poem reads, "May we be friends forever; and when the last trump shall sound; through death all earthly ties shall sever; may we both at god's right hand be found". There are several different plates in the album depicting different stages of life, some of which are strange. Three feature an older woman, little girl, and angel all carrying flowers while the final plate depicts two young people running from a man, captioned "Elopement". A charming remembrance album for a woman living in New York and Virginia from 1862 through 1867.
